THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, LACROSSE STADIUM

Location:  Columbus, Ohio
Project Type: Sports Facilities
Contract: $2,700,000
Role: Electrical Contractor
Construction Manager: Ruscilli Construction
Completion: 2023

Claypool Electric is proud to have performed the electrical systems and IT infrastructure work on The Ohio State University Lacrosse Stadium that boasts three separate buildings on the concourse level for IT, concessions and restroom facilities. The second level houses the press box for PA announcements and Big Ten Network coverage of the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse games. On the north end of the field is a fourth support building that contains the locker rooms, additional restrooms and an indoor turf practice shooting room on the concourse level along with an observation deck above for viewing the matches.

Another highlight of the support building is the master control units for the LED MUSCO lighting system powering the seven new 110’ poles for the 93–1500-Watt fixtures that provide one of the few lacrosse stadiums in the country the ability to host nighttime games. The support building also houses the boiler system that heats the playing field using glycol pressurized piping under the surface. This facility has two separate 1000A electrical services and an 80KW generator for emergency power items.

Challenges

Due to supply chain shortfalls, the distribution equipment was scheduled to arrive after the inaugural season was complete. This challenge required Claypool Electric to develop a creative solution.

Outcome

Claypool Electric coordinated a plan with the owner, building department and all other stakeholders to use temporary equipment, enabling play for the entire season.

Highlights

The project was completed in time for the opening day.
